Vehicle sellers are being warned of the consequences of illegally street trading after council officers seized a quarter of the vehicles advertised for sale by a single trader.
Enfield Council officers carried out the operation in Bullsmoor Lane and Hertford Road on 30 June after complaints from residents, and also placed warning notices on other vehicles advertised for sale and contacted sellers.
If prosecuted, convicted street traders can expect a fine of up to £1,000, plus costs to cover the removal and storage of the seized vehicles which the courts can order to also be crushed.
Enfield Council’s Cabinet Member for Environment, Cllr Daniel Anderson, said: “We are cracking down on illegal street trading. They are harming the legitimate car traders, take up residents’ parking spaces and there is also the threat posed by the sale of potentially unsafe vehicles.
“Although it can be difficult to track down the people responsible for this blight on our streets our officers are determined to find those responsible and tackle the problem of illegal street trading in this borough.”
