President of the International Coordinating Committee Justice for Cyprus (PSEKA) Philip Christopher described the former President of the Republic of Cyprus Glafcos Clerides as “a true patriot and war hero”.
PSEKA extended on Friday their heartfelt sympathies to the family of the former President who passed away Friday, November 15 at the age of 94.
“President Clerides was a true patriot and war hero,” said President of PSEKA.
He noted that during WW II Clerides served in the British Royal Air Force, he was captured when his airplane was shot down over Germany and was a prisoner of war until the end of the war.
“As President of Cyprus, that same spirit of a hero, a survivor and an innovator reflected in his administration” Christopher said.
He added that President Clerides ushered Cyprus into the European Union and placed Cyprus in a more strategic position. “His love of Cyprus, his intelligence and humor will carry on in the history of Cyprus” he said
