Presidential Commissioner for Humanitarian Issues and Overseas Cypriots Photis Photiou on Friday met with young overseas Cypriots who participate in the program “Explore Cyprus” which is sponsored by the Cyprus Youth Organization, as well as young Cypriots who take part for the first time in the distance learning program ” Introduction to the History of Cyprus “which is offered by NEPOMAK at the Open University of Cyprus in the framework of an MoU signed in 2016. The meeting took place at the Presidential Palace.
Both programs aim at offering the younger generations of overseas Cypriots the opportunity to visit Cyprus and learn about the history, language and culture of the island. The programs include a series of cultural events, excursions and guided tours as well as lessons in Greek.
The Commissioner pointed out the important role that the youth can play in promoting Cyprus abroad and stressed that is also significant for them to be on touch with their homeland, their mother tongue and their traditions.
