Cyprus Minister of Defence Christoforos Fokaides received on Wednesday Nick Gurr, United Kingdom`s Ministry of Defence (MOD) Director for International Security Policy.
According to an official press released issued today, welcoming Gurr, the Cypriot Minister said his visit that follows the visit of Penny Mordaunt, Minister of State for Armed Forces and a series of bilateral contacts manifests both sides` will to continuously strengthen their bilateral relations between the two Ministries.
Cyprus and the UK have upgraded their cooperation the past years particularly aiming at facing new unconventional threats as well promoting stability in a fragile region, ravaged by conflict, rising terrorism and humanitarian crises.
Due the bonds they have developed as well as their participation in the European Union, he added, the two countries have a duty to contribute constructively in the creation of conditions of peace and security.
Fokaides and Gurr also discussed the next practical steps as well as ways to further deepen the bilateral cooperation between Cyprus and the UK in the fields of security, defence in mutually beneficial manner, the release notes.
