Before the AGM 27 members of the Society participated in a the AGM golf Competition. The Captain of Muswell Hill Golf Club, Collin Taylor, joined us for the golf competition. The weather was wonderful, the warmest day of the year with temperatures hitting a high of 17 deg.C. It was such a pleasure to see all the golfers with a smile on their faces playing golf in short sleeves in the middle of the winter. Fantastic.

After the golf and the evening meal the Captain Abe Basri presented Sera from Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospice a cheque of £2540.00. The money was collected during last year’s events. Sera thanked Abe and all the members for their generous support and gave us an insight to what the charity does and its aims.

Mr Rossides from the Cyprus Tourist Office followed with a promotional speech about golf in Cyprus describing in detail the advantages of playing golf there.

It was then followed by the presentation of trophies to the winners of the Fourball Better Ball Competition, Melis Menelaou and Errol Ahmet, to the most improved player, Tony Philippou and to the prize winners on the day:

Angelos Georgiou the winner with 37 points

Steve Ferris runner up, 34

Andrew Savva third, 34

Andy Soteriou winner, nearest to the pin.

All the prize money of £140.00 won by the above players was donated to the charity prompting a big round of applause for their generosity.

The AGM began at 7.30 pm. With 40 members present. The meeting heard reports from the President Chris Antoniou, the Captain Abe Basri, the Secretary Peter Sandamas, the Treasurer Andreas Stylianou, the Competitions Savvas Savva and Handicaps Vange Evangelou. Tony Koureas gave a vote of thanks to the committee followed by the election of Michael Tsangarides the 2012 Captain, Andrew Savva the Vice Captain and the election of committee members.

In his acceptance speech Michael Tsangarides expressed his wish to see an improvement in players golfing skills in his year of captaincy and also the recruitment of new members especially young Cypriot golfers. He also hoped to carry on with all the good work done by all previous captains and ensure the smooth running of the Society.

Michael’s first event as Captain will be the golfing holiday to Abu Dhabi on the 16th – 24th March. Forty members of the Cypriot Golf Society are in with a treat playing three wonderful golf courses in wonderful sunshine.
