CAPTAIN WINS CAPTAIN’S CUP
The Captain of the Cypriot Golf Society, Michael Tsangarides won the most prestigious event of the year, the Captains Cup with 72 points. Michael played fantastic golf scoring 38 points in the morning round and 34 points in the afternoon round and in the process winning from Tony Koureas who had an amazing score of 40 points in the morning but only 32 in the afternoon. Michael Tsangarides won more majors than any other member but winning the Captain’s Cup was very special to him as it was one major that he did not win previously. Congratulations to Michael Tsangarides for an excellent win.
The Captains Cup was held on Thursday 21st June at Northwood Golf Club. Attending this event were 42 members of the Society who braved the weather forecast of heavy and prolonged showers. As it happened there were only two brief periods of light rain with the rest of the day been pleasant and ideal for playing the wonderful game of golf. The Captain’s Charity sweepstakes raised £365.00 for the Captains favourite charity, Breathing Life. The Captain’s Cup was sponsored by Ben Webster and Belleveue Mortlakes Property Agents.
Everyone arrived at the golf club by 7.45am. The captain reminded everyone about the day’s proceedings and handed each member with visor cap. At 8.30am the captain and his team teed off and what a team! Michael plays off 6 handicap, Ben Webster off 2, Andy Lanitis off 7 and Vange Evangelou off 24. Drinks were on the tee provided by the captain and apples and bananas provided by the Michanicou Brothers.
Peter Sandamas presented to the Captain a Momento to remind him of his year of captaincy. The Captain presented Ben Webster with his framed scorecard of the last day of the Abu Dhabi Golfing holiday playing the Abu Dhabi National Golf Club. Ben had an amazing round of 68, 4 under par which saw Ben win the day and the overall.
After the evening meal and the speeches the Captain, Michael Tsangarides and Ben Webster from the sponsors Bellevue Mortlakes presented the trophies to the winners:

The next event of the Cypriot Golf Society, the Committee and Past Captains Competition will be held on the 4th July at Canons Brook Golf Club, Harlow. It will be followed by the July event on Thursday 12th July at Dyrham Park Golf Club, Barnet
