CGS Cypriot Golf Society Spring Classic – Denham Golf Club

The Cypriot Golf Society held its second event of the year on 16th April 2026, generously sponsored by Vange Evangelou of Abraxas Insurance Services.
This was the second consecutive year that the event was held at Denham Golf Club, a very popular venue not only because of its excellent golf course, conveniently located for North London members, but also because of the fantastic carvery and desserts served after the golf. Unsurprisingly, 72 golfers signed up for the event on a lovely sunny day.
As always, the day began with everyone meeting at 10:30am for bacon rolls and coffee. Vice Captain Louis Leonida, standing in for Captain Dino Capsalis, thanked the sponsor and delivered a short speech regarding the order of the day, local rules, speed of play and other housekeeping matters before the tournament commenced at 12:00pm.
Denham Golf Club is situated next door to Denham Aerodrome, with light aircraft and helicopters continuously taking off and landing spectacularly close to the golf course. Although there is always some concern that a stray high shot may collide with an aircraft, thankfully this is merely an optical illusion!
With the good weather and excellent course conditions, some impressive golf was played, with 10 players scoring 36 points or more. The winner of the day, with an excellent score of 41 points, was new member Peter Peters (handicap 20), who plays his golf at The Shire Golf Club. In close second place with 40 points, beating Mario Savva (handicap 23) on countback, was the 2022 Order of Merit winner Michael Falekkos (handicap 6).

Following the golf and a fantastic dinner, £1,190 was raised through fines, donations and the sweep for the Captain’s Charity, North London Hospice, taking the total raised so far this year to £3,855. Well done to everyone who contributed.
