Cypriot Government’s police job promotions serve petty-party considerations instead of public interest

Unfortunately, once again, the Minister of Justice and Public Order Ionas Nicolaou has operated serving petty-party considerations and expediencies in the job promotions of police at the Police College. Instead of the Minister of Justice focusing on the need to clean up the Police Force and combat corruption in the force, as a result of his petty-party, biased and unacceptable stand, he is marginalizing worthy and capable police staff, damaging meritocracy and undermining the Force’s effectiveness.

It is evident that meritocracy and transparency do not fall into the political practice, nor even the Minister’s daily attitude and behaviour. His clear goal is to serve petty-party plans instead of promoting the public interest.

We denounce to citizens the Minster’s discriminatory and unacceptable stance on the issues relating to police job promotion.
