A 37-year-old man from Ayia Napa was on Tuesday remanded for five days after he was found in possession of a car listed on a register of vehicles stolen from the UK.
The man says he purchased the car—a Range Rover worth an estimated €100,000– from a British woman in Paphos.
According to police, the man was arrested in Larnaca on Monday, following a tip-off, when the Range Rover he was travelling in was stopped for a check which uncovered inconsistencies in its registration number.
During the check, the 37-year-old jumped into the driver’s seat and sped off, the police said.
The vehicle was soon after spotted at a Larnaca mechanic’s garage and confiscated. Investigations showed it had been stolen from the UK in March 2012 and the 37-year-old was tracked down and arrested.
Larnaca CID investigations are continuing.
