Antony Akathiotis and Theo Papadamou
The 2014 National Fish & Chip Awards, organised by Seafish, took place at London’s Lancaster Hotel on 22 January 2014.
Among the winners in the Independent Takeaway Fish and Chip Shop of the Year Award category were two Cypriots – Antony Akathiotis, owner of the award winning shop Merchants (Midlands Regional) and Theo Papadamou, owner of Papa’s Barn (London and South East).
Now in their 26th year, the National Fish & Chip Awards continue to be the most prestigious event for everyone involved in sourcing, producing and selling the nation’s favourite dish.
The competition started in 1987 in order to raise standards in industry and generate positive publicity on its behalf. Since then, rigorous judging processes and the high quality of entrants, have ensured these Awards continue to go from strength to strength.
The first ever winner of the competition was Toffs of Muswell Hill, owned by Andreas Toffalis.
