Cyprus and Egypt sign Memorandum of Understanding for health-related issues

Cyprus and Egypt signed on Monday a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for public health and medical science, in a bid to enhance their cooperation in health-related areas.

According to an announcement, forwarded by PIO, the MoU was signed by Cyprus’ Minister of Health George Pamborides and Egypt’s Foreign Minister Sameh Hassan Shoukry, in the presence of President of Cyprus Nicos Anastasiades and President of Egypt Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, in the framework of Sisi’s official visit to Cyprus.

The MoU was signed following the cooperation agreement the two countries signed back in 2000 in Cairo and aims at enhancing existing cooperation with regard to pharmaceutical products.

Through the exchange of expertise and best practices, the aim is to facilitate trade of pharmaceutical products and develop cooperation among relevant companies, among others.

The MoU also aims at promoting health tourism from Cyprus to Egypt and at exchanging information over registration procedures for pharmaceutical products in the two countries. A technical committee to oversee implementation has also been set up.

Minister Pamborides welcomed the signing of the MoU,pointing out that it is part of the efforts made by the government to develop cooperation with countries in the region “in order to upgrade and turn Cyprus into a regional hub for health-related issues”.
