Cyprus backs global strategy for EU foreign and security policy, Minister says

The Republic of Cyprus supports the promotion of a global strategy for the EU foreign and security policy, Minister of Defence Christoforos Fokaides has said in an intervention on the sidelines of the Informal meeting of EU Ministers of Defence, that took place in Amsterdam.
Chaired by High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Federica Mogherini, the meeting addressed the European Defence and Security Policy.
During the meeting in Amsterdam, the current European operations and missions, the defence cooperation in Europe and the European Defence Action Plan were on the agenda.
Together with the European Minister of Foreign Affairs, Europe`s future foreign and security policy was discussed during a working lunch.
In his intervention, Fokaides said that Cyprus supports the promotion of a global strategy for the EU foreign and security policy, noting that due to new challenges, the EU foreign and internal security are connected.
He added that the promotion of a global strategy needs the development of European defence abilities and mechanisms, as well as political will.
