The Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) is organising a series of business missions in autumn, to promote Cyprus as an investment destination, in Iran, the US, UK and China.
Some of the missions, most likely in Iran and the US, are expected to be attended by Minister of Energy, Commerce, Industry and Tourism Yiorgos Lakkotripis.
Secretary General of the CCCI, Marios Tsiakkis, told CNA that the effort focuses on promoting Cyprus as a business center due to the various tax avoidance agreements, the promotion of various services such as business, professional, investment funds, shipping and attracting new companies. The health and education sectors will also be promoted in some of the countries.
Around 9-11 October, the CCCI will travel to Tehran, where, according to Tsiakkis, an effort will be made to promote companies from the industrial sector and exports of products such as pharmaceuticals, building materials and food.
A mission is also scheduled to travel to New York around 23-25 October where emphasis will be placed on professional services, investment funds and investments. As Tsiakkis said, in the recent past, american companies had shown interest in Cyprus due to its role in the region, but also for investments in case of a solution to the Cyprus political problem.
The mission in London is scheduled for November 8 with a view to attract companies to Cyprus after Brexit, from where they can do business in the EU.
On November 9, the CCCI organizes a visit to Hong Kong, where particular importance will be placed in shipping, as well as health and education sectors, following the recent degree recognition agreement signed between Cyprus and China.
