The Republic of Cyprus has requested help from Russia to extinguish a fire raging, since Sunday, in the Solea region of Nicosia district.
A source from the Russian Embassy in Nicosia has told CNA that the request was put forward by the Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment, Nicos Kouyialis.
“We confirm that we have received a request to provide help. It was immediately forwarded to Moscow and we are waiting for a response,” the source noted.
Greece, Israel, UK, France and Italy have already deployed aircraft to Cyprus to help battle the huge fire, which has claimed the lives of two firefighters.
