The year 2016 will be a record-breaking year for tourist arrivals and revenue from tourism, according to Cyprus` Minister of Energy, Commerce, Industry and Tourism Yiorgos Lakkotrypis.
“It is very important to move forward without going backwards, on the path that we have created as regards [tourist] arrivals and revenue from tourism and the reforms in the tourism industry which are so important for the economy of our country” Lakkotrypis said.
He pointed out that “all indications are that this year will be the best year ever both in terms of tourist arrivals and revenue” and described as “very important the increase foreseen for winter months”.
Lakkotrypis said that Cyprus must overcome the obstacle of seasonality, noting that “a large part of the reduction in unemployment seen in recent months was due to the performance of the tourism industry”.
