Cyprus Tax Department is looking into making most of Lagarde list data

The Tax Department, which has recently acquired the Lagarde list, is processing the spreadsheet to make the most of the data included therein, Commissioner of Taxation Yiannakis Lazarou has told CNA.

The Lagarde list is a spreadsheet containing about 2,000 names with undeclared accounts at the Swiss branch of HSBC in Geneva. It is named after former French Finance Minister, now head of IMF Christine Lagarde, who had handed over the list in 2010 to the Greek authorities. The list is said to include names of persons who are connected to Cyprus.

Lazarou told CNA that after communicating with the French tax authorities, the Tax Department has recently acquired the Lagarde list in accordance with a European directive for administrative cooperation in the area of taxation.

As he explained, the list was sent to the Department in digital form and it includes both natural and legal persons.

“The list is being processed so that we can make the most of the data therein”, Lazarou said.
