Cyprus to announce new support measures to mitigate new lockdown’s economic impact

The Cypriot government will announce on Saturday a new package of support measures to alleviate the financial impact of a new three-week lock down on economic activity.

The Finance Ministry said that the new package will be announced by the Minister of Finance and the Minister of Labour, Welfare and Social Insurance during a joint press conference.

Sources told CNA the measures will be similar to those announced by the Cypriot authorities in March 2020 when a two-month lockdown was enforced.

The Ministry of Labour will announce measures to cover the labour cost of companies which will suspend their economic activity as a result of the lockdown measures, while it will announce support to businesses that prove they had an impact on their turnover as a result of the pandemic.

The Finance Ministry will announce a package along the lines of last year involving a one-off support to businesses’ operating expenditure, the same sources told CNA.
