DEREHAM TOWN 3 HARINGEY BOROUGH 3

Ryman League Division One North

Tuesday 19th January

A much changed squad, with only 7 of the 13 who played at Witham on Saturday last being available for the 100+ mile midweek trip, did the Club proud in a superb game of football. Any result other than a draw would have been harsh on the losers but Borough actually left feeling that two points had been thrown away as they led 3-1 after an hours play. Had Dereham made good their early first half domination they could have been home and dry by the interval but all they had to show for it was an 18th minute goal driven in by an unmarked Luke Tuttle.

And a minute before the interval Borough put themselves back in the game when the ‘keeper misjudged a corner from the left and the ball ricocheted around off post and players before Ashley Taylor-Forbes applied the coup-de-grace.

It was Borough’s turn to dominate at the start of the second half and a period of sustained pressure brought its reward in the 62nd minute when Ishmail Kamara ended a flowing move by smashing the ball into the roof of the net from around the penalty spot.

Four minutes later debut making Coby Rowe met a corner from the left with a powerful header to increase the lead. Had the post not intervened a few minutes later Borough would have effectively wrapped up the game but the home side stepped up a gear and enjoyed the better of the final 20 minutes looking particularly dangerous as they repeatedly tore in from the left and were rewarded with a close range finish in the 75th minute and another three minutes later.

Neither side was ready to settle for equality although Dereham did look the more likely scorers in the closing stages but the Borough defence held firm and a well deserved point was preserved.
