Detectives investigating the murder of a 23-year-old man in Enfield will return to the scene

Detectives investigating the murder of a 23-year-old man in Enfield will return to the scene one-week on from the incident to appeal for witnesses and information.

Officers will be speaking to members of the local community this evening (Friday, 23 March) as the investigation into the murder of the Russell Jordan Jones continues.

A post-mortem examination carried out at Haringey Mortuary on Thursday, 22 March gave the cause of death as stab wound. He also suffered a gun shot injury.

Police were called shortly before 00:40hrs on Saturday, 17 March, to reports of shots fired on South Street in Enfield.

Officers attended along with the London Ambulance Service and found two seriously injured men, both aged in their early 20s.

Russell was found with stab injuries and a suspected gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 01:14hrs.

‘Victim 2’, a 23-year-old man, was found suffering from stab injuries. He was taken to an east London hospital, but has since been discharged.

The victims were with some friends outside the parade of shops on South Street near the junction with Scotland Green Road at 00:34hrs when the attack took place.

Four suspects approached the victims from the direction of Curlew House, which is behind the shops. They were all dressed in dark clothing, wearing hooded tops with the hoods pulled up.

Detectives from the Met’s Homicide and Major Crime Command are investigating.

Detective Chief Inspector Andy Partridge, who is leading the investigation, said: “Both my detectives and local Enfield officers are returning to the scene tonight. The attack happend just after midnight and we have already had a good response from the public.

“I believe further witnesses are yet to come forward. I am appealing to those who may have seen the suspects in the lead up to the attack or afterwards running along the alleyway at the side of the Oasis Academy towards Sandhurst Road.

“The suspects would have drawn attention to themselves, running away as a group into a residential area just after midnight.

“I can reassure anyone with information that it will be treated with the strictest confidence. This was a shocking attack and those responsible need to be caught.”

Russell’s mother said in a statement: “We are completely heartbroken and in total shock and disbelief at what has happened.

“Russell was a loving son, twin brother, grandson, partner and friend who was looking forward to graduating from University. He will be forever loved by us all and will be in our hearts and minds for eternity.

“We are struggling to understand how someone could do such a terrible thing. Russell was and always will be my baby and he has been taken away from me in this truly devastating and heart breaking way.

“We wish that no other family has to endure such a tragedy. The people who did this have to be caught, please if you know something, don’t remain silent, please tell the police”.

There have been no arrests and enquiries continue.
