Downing Street responds to Doros Partasides questions

The British Prime Minister is very aware of the United Kingdom’s important role as a guarantor power and remains committed to finding a sustainable solution. We continue to support efforts to resolve the Cyprus issue under the leadership of the UN.
This was the response of Downing Street’s spokesperson for Foreign Affairs, to a question from Doros Partasides during the regular briefing provided by the Prime Minister’s Office to foreign correspondents.
She also emphasized that the issue was discussed in detail between the British Prime Minister and the President of Cyprus during Mr. Christodoulides’ last visit to London in December. Additionally, she assured Mr. Partasides that she would be informed once the UK officially accepts an invitation to participate in the upcoming informal talks.
It is worth noting that while this has been the United Kingdom’s longstanding position on the Cyprus issue, its reaffirmation gains particular significance in light of the anticipated talks, reportedly expected to take place in mid-March.
Mr. Partasides also asked the Prime Minister’s Office spokesperson about the role Cyprus is expected to play in the United Kingdom’s relations with the EU, given that Nicosia will assume the EU presidency in the first half of 2026.
In response, the spokesperson highlighted that the British Prime Minister is keen to strengthen and deepen the UK’s relations with the EU. She noted that, as part of this commitment, Keir Starmer participated in last week’s Informal Summit of EU leaders in Brussels.
