Paus – who signed a two year contract – was the personal choice of technical director at Anorthosis, Ted van Leeuwen.
Paus and Van Leeuwen have previously worked with each other at Maltese champions Valletta F.C. and club officials and fans are hoping that the two can revitalise Anorthosis’ fortunes like they did in Malta after a season to forget for refugee club.
Anorthosis, who are around €15million in debt and just finished one of their worst campaigns in their history,
Anorthosis, had enjoyed league title and Champions League success up until the departure of former coach Temuri Ketsbaia in 2009. They also suffered their worst ever defeat when they lost a thumping 8-1 to APOEL recently.
The 48-year-old Paus had a relatively low-key career as a defender struggling to break into the first team in Holland with FC Twente and Heracles Almelo while he also had a short stint in Japan playing for Jubilo Iwata.
His post-playing career saw him join the coaching staff at Vitesse – where he was eventually placed as head coach of the reserve side – before being offered the top job at Valetta, guiding them to the league title this season.
