This summer Trent Park in Cockfosters will be under the microscope as Denis Vickers, an ecologist, will be conducting a number of surveys in the park which will examine the full range of plants that grow there, and how they can be protected.
The surveys will take place between April and August this year and will see Denis compiling reports on the plants and flowers which grow in Trent Park, including species that live in the woodlands, meadows and around the lakes and streams. He will also be noting any wildlife encountered during his investigations.
The project was paid for with Grassroots funding.
Carol Fisk, from the Friends of Trent Park, said “Denis is a specialist in conducting surveys and creating plans to help preserve and encourage the biodiversity of urban areas.
“We are delighted to welcome him to Trent Park and really are excited about what he will tell us.”
Alan Mitellas, from Black Rainbow Events, who are running a programme of free walks in Trent Park this year, said “It’s vital to have a detailed survey of the flora and fauna in Trent Park, as well as having a plan in place to manage, or even improve the diversity of species if necessary.
“For anyone interested in nature, some of our free tours this year will be looking at trees, plants and wildlife, so why not join us?”
