A campaign to get a million people out and about cleaning up their communities is being backed by the Leader of Enfield Council, Cllr Doug Taylor, as ‘Clean for The Queen’ aims to give the country a tidy-up ahead of The Queen’s 90th birthday in April.
The national campaign will be the biggest community-led clean-up the country has ever seen. In Enfield it will be led by Cllr Taylor, who will be joined by Cllr Daniel Anderson, Cabinet Member for Environment and Gary Mabbutt from Tottenham Hotspur FC, who will be encouraging and supporting groups and individuals who want to ‘do their bit’ to help keep Enfield clean over a weekend of activity from 4 to 6 March 2016.
The event will be kicked off at the right royal location of Queen Elizabeth II Stadium in Enfield. Cllr Taylor said “We are delighted to be supporting ‘Clean for The Queen’ and we would encourage as many groups, individuals and organisations from across the borough to take part. Enfield Council currently spends £4.4 million a year on keeping our streets clean but it’s a never ending task. We hope that communities will join with us for this event and help make our borough sparkle.”
Gary Mabbutt MBE, Tottenham Hotspur Ambassador, said: “As residents of Enfield, the home of our world class Training Centre, the Club is delighted to support Enfield Council’s efforts to ‘Clean for the Queen’. “The Club is committed to supporting various community initiatives within the borough through its Section 106 agreement with the Council and Lee Valley Regional Park Authority, so we would like to encourage residents to get out and do their bit to make Enfield look the part ahead of Her Majesty’s birthday.”
People can either join an arranged clean up, details below, or arrange their own! Why not don those rubber gloves, seize a black sack and get collecting to make your area spick and span for The Queen?
