Enfield Gymnastics & Trampolining Festival 2013

Monday & Tuesday 25 & 26 November at Southbury Leisure Centre, Southbury Road, 9am to 12noon and 1pm to 3.30pm – primary schools gymnastics.

Weds 27 November at Edmonton Leisure Centre, Edmonton Green – 9am to 1pm – there is also the secondary schools trampolining competition on this day.

Over 500 children and young people aged from 5 – 18 are taking part in this year’s Gymnastics and Trampolining Festival, organised by Enfield Council.

Forty primary schools; four special schools and five secondary schools have entered pupils in this competition which tests their agility, skill and imaginations.

Young people will be producing spectacular feats packed with intricate moves and twists which are not only physically demanding, but also thoroughly entertaining to watch.

Cllr Ayfer Orhan, Cabinet Member for Children & Young People, said, “We can expect to see some terrific routines from all those taking part. It is amazing just how polished the sequences from all age groups can be. It is a credit to the performers and their teachers that they are able to achieve such high standards.”

The winners of the beginners’ competitions will represent Enfield at the London Mini Youth Games at Crystal Palace in June 2014.

There are five competition categories that students are entered into according to either age and/or experience, these are: Beginners for children aged 5-7 Intermediates for children aged 9 – 11.

There are two open competitions where primary children aged 10-11 compete against secondary students aged 11-12 in a team event with the very experienced club gymnasts competing as an individual in the advanced open category.

Secondary school students compete in the trampolining competition. There are also opportunities for those new to the sport to compete in the novice competitions and club performers can enter the advanced competitions across the age ranges.

Local gymnastics clubs support this event by assisting with judging and secondary sports leaders have also been trained as judges helping to maintain performance standards. It would not be possible to run such a big event without their help.
