Eroglu statements to the Pakistani press

Statements by Eroglu to Pakistani Ittihad newspaper- He will meet with British parliamentarians in London

Turkish Cypriot Gunes daily newspaper (11.06.12), reports that Turkish Cypriot leader Dervis Eroglu has alleged that he had lost his hope for the reunification of Cyprus because of the so-called lack of will exhibited by the Greek Cypriot side at the negotiating table. In statements to Pakistani Ittihad newspaper, Eroglu argued that together with Europe and the world, the Muslim countries as well implement so-called embargoes on the Turkish Cypriots. “No direct flight has been realized towards us from any other Moslem country except Turkey”, he said and claimed that this situation must change.

“I could say that I am losing my hope for unification”, argued Eroglu alleging that this derives from the so-called lack of will of the Greek Cypriot side on the issue of the reunification of the island. Eroglu alleged that if the Greek Cypriots wanted an agreement, they would have accepted the Annan Plan, which was allegedly a “very beneficial and good plan” for them.

Asked about his expectations from the international community, the Muslim countries and especially Pakistan in case no solution is reached in Cyprus, Eroglu responded that they had no right to complain about Pakistan, because when they had applied for opening a “representation office”, their request was immediately accepted.

He added, inter alia, the following: “Our representative there can go around having the TRNC flag on his official car. They gave permission for this. If some political obstacles were not created, Pakistan would recognize us. Therefore, we can have no complaint from Pakistan. We see Pakistan as our sister country like Turkey. In every meeting of the Organization for Islamic Cooperation some beautiful decisions are taken about us. We are expecting the realization of these decisions. We say that Europe implements embargo on us, but some of our Muslim brothers are also complying with this?”

Noting that there are some things which should be done for economic cooperation between Pakistan and the breakaway regime, Eroglu said that they could visit Pakistan with official delegations, with industrialists and merchants and that in the same way they could invite Pakistani investors to the occupied area of Cyprus. He argued that the Pakistani media have “a serious duty” on the issue of cooperation and promotion of the breakaway regime.

In addition, Illegal Bayrak television (11.06.12) broadcast that Eroglu who is heading to London tomorrow, will meet over lunch with members of the “Friends of Northern Cyprus Group” at the British parliament.
