Illegal Bayrak television (09.06.12) broadcast that the Turkish Cypriot leader, Dervis Eroglu, said that he wants a solution which will protect the rights of the Turkish Cypriots and the rights of Turkey.
Eroglu, who made these statements at the opening ceremony of the “36th International Fair” organized in the breakaway regime, alleged that it is not possible for the Greek Cypriot administration, as he called the Republic of Cyprus, to reach an agreement with the Turkish side “as long as the Turkish Cypriots are under embargoes and the Cyprus negotiations process is open ended”.
Eroglu said that the Greek Cypriot side had refused an offer of a multilateral conference to take place on the Cyprus problem and asserted the following: “They are pushing for a Cypriot owned solution and are taking steps in accordance with a yes or a no from the Greek Cypriot side; it is not possible to continue like this”.
He went on and alleged that a Cypriot owned solution has been agreed between the former Turkish Cypriot leader, Mehmet Ali Talat and President Demetris Christofias. Eroglu claimed that in order for a Cypriot owned solution to be possible, both sides must come to a mutual agreement on how the negotiations process will continue.
Noting that currently there were two views as to how a solution should be obtained to the Cyprus problem, Eroglu said: “I favour finding a solution that will protect the gained rights of the Cyprus Turkish Cypriots; a solution that will satisfy the people and allow them to live on their lands in security and harmony. A solution that will protect the rights of not only the Cyprus Turks but motherland Turkey as well’ said Eroglu.
