EU cash to promote innovation and change in Turkish Cypriot schools

The European Commission on Tuesday launched a €1.5 million call for proposals promoting innovation and change in schools and the improvement of employability in the Turkish Cypriot community.

The sixth Innovation and Change in Education grant scheme aims to improve quality and efficiency in education and training and the promotion of equity, social cohesion and active citizenship, and promote lifelong learning and activities enhancing entrepreneurship, the Commission said.

“The call represents a unique opportunity for a number of organisations such as pre-primary, secondary schools and the teachers training academy in the northern-part of Cyprus to submit projects to promote innovation and change in education,” a statement said.

Organisations can propose projects between €30,000 and €100,000 for a two to three year implementation period.

For the first time, the call will also be open to life-long learning organisations such as chambers, associations and unions to promote entrepreneurship and skills development. Those organisations can propose projects between €50,000 and €200,000 for a two to three year implementation period as well.

The deadline for submission of proposals is June 24, 4pm Cyprus time. Training on project cycle management as well as a series of information sessions on the application process will be organised in April.

This initiative is funded under the EU Aid Programme for the Turkish Cypriot community and implemented by the European Commission.
