The European Cyprus Society: Great success for the first official presentation of the newly formed youth organization
A very interesting and successful event was recently organized by the newly established youth organization ‘The European Cyprus Society’ last Tuesday, 31st January 2017 at Hilton Hotel in Nicosia. The event constituted the first official presentation of the organization to the public, and aimed to inform young people about its goals and vision.
Initially, Miss Katerina Gavrielidou – President and Founder of The European Cyprus Society, and Queen’s Young Leader for Cyprus – spoke about the vision and purpose of the organization. ‘Our vision is to encourage young people of Cyprus, and to give them the opportunity to express their views on issues relating to Youth, European & International Relations and Politics’ said Miss Gavrielidou during her welcome speech.
The Ambassador of the French Republic to Cyprus Mr. Rene Troccaz, and Mr. Jeanpier Anaya Salas, Charge d’Affaires of the Embassy of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela in Cyprus, also attended the event and referred to the importance that pervades young people as active citizens in their own country but also in Europe. The Commissioner for Volunteering and NGOs of the Republic of Cyprus Mr. Giannis Giannakis also attended the event and talked with young people. Many young people who attended the event had the opportunity to become members, and to learn about the next actions of the organization.
The European Cyprus Society was created in October 2016 by Katerina Gavrielidou and a team of young Cypriots in order to encourage young people of Cyprus and to give them a platform on topics that concern them. The European Cyprus Society will deal with the themes of Youth, European & International Relations and Politics without party affiliations. The group is based on volunteerism and has filed for registration as a Non-Governmental Organisation.
