Eight fire engines and around 60 firefighters have been called to a fire at a derelict church hall on Addison Avenue in Southgate.
The whole of the building is currently alight.
Station Commander Will Thompson who is at the scene said: “Firefighters are working hard to bring the fire under control.
“The fire is producing smoke in the local area, those who live nearby are advised to keep their windows and doors closed where possible.
“One of the Brigade’s 32-metre turntable ladders is being used at the scene as a water tower to tackle flames from height.”
The Brigade’s Control Officers took the first of nearly 50 calls to the fire at 1840 and sent crews from Southgate, Barnet, Tottenham, Edmonton, Finchley and surrounding fire stations to the scene.
The cause of the fire is not known at this time.
