A fire was raging out of control between the villages of Ayios Therapon and Ayios Ambrosios in the Limassol district on Saturday afternoon, burning wild vegetation and trees, the Cyprus News Agency has reported.
The fire started at 12.30 am and spread because of strong winds, making fire services’ job difficult.
It said that 15 fire trucks from Limassol and the villages of Pachna, Moniatis, Pelendri, Vouni, the forest department, Limassol district office as well civil defence were on the scene. Two helicopters of the Republic, two forestry department airplanes, a police helicopter and a British Base helicopter were also being used to battle the flames.
CNA said that strong winds made the task particularly difficult and off duty personnel were being called in to help
