First chance to see Wood Green library plans

Residents can find out more about plans to introduce even more services to Wood Green Library during two drop-in sessions.

Visitors to the library will be able to do things like pay for a parking permit, or get information about a council service, alongside the usual range of library facilities, as part of a project to ensure Haringey’s libraries remain at the heart of their communities.

Self-service payment machines will be moved into the ground floor of the library, as well as additional staff and an enquiries desk where residents to speak to someone in person.

Computers will be moved to the first floor and non-fiction books will be available towards the front of the library.

The designs for the new-look ground floor will be on show during the sessions, on Thursday 16 July 6-8pm and Friday 17 July 11-2pm. Staff from libraries and customer services will be on hand, as well as the architects for the project, to answer questions.

Wood Green Library will remain open when work begins to install the improvements later this year and the new-look ground floor is expected to be fully functioning by March next year.

Similar improvements will also be made at Marcus Garvey Library in Tottenham.

Haringey Council cabinet member for resources and culture Cllr Jason Arthur said:

“When other councils are turning their backs on their libraries, we want to continue to ensure ours go from strength to strength and these improvements will ensure that the popular, much-loved Wood Green Library is able to offer even more to its visitors.

“Do come along for a first look at the designs and to find out more about what these exciting plans involve.”
