The first four Typhoon jet fighters from RAF Lossiemouth have arrived at the British Base of Akrotiri in Cyprus on Thursday to join UK air strikes against the Islamic State terror.
Their arrival follows the British Parliament`s decision to strike in Syria.
Two more Typhoon jets are expected to land this evening and two Tornado GR4.
An Airbus A400M Atlas multi-national four-engine turboprop military transport aircraft is also expected to land carrying technical and military personnel.
British Prime Minister David Cameron warned that the UK military operation could last some time. “We are going to need to be patient and persistent,” he said. “This is going to take time.”
The defence secretary, Michael Fallon, said that the aircraft were using Paveway bombs and had “dealt a real blow” to the Isis-controlled oilfields.
