Footballers arrested after attacking opponent after Cypriot league football match

Two amateur league footballers are expected to appear before a magistrate in Larnaca on Monday on suspicion of attacking and injuring an opponent during an amateur league football game on Sunday.

The incident took place on Sunday afternoon at the Troulli Community Stadium after the final whistle of the game between Troulli FC and Ethnikos Tersefanou. According to police, two players from host team Troulli attacked and injured Tersefanou footballer Loucas Lazarou.

He then went and reported the incident at Athienou Police Station.

Lazarou, 29, was then taken to Larnaca General Hospital, where doctors treated him for abrasions on various parts of his body before releasing him.

The two players that had allegedly attacked him have been identified as a 32-year-old and a 26-year-old.
