Greek Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs Evangelos Venizelos on Tuesday pointed out that the framework for the solution of the Cyprus problem is clear and provides for a bicommunal, bizonal federation.
According to a press release circulated by the Greek Embassy in Nicosia, Venizelos was replying to a question by the press over the framework of Cyprus solution and underlined that this framework is `very simple`.
He added that the decisions to be taken are in the framework of the UN Security Council Resolutions, the acquis communautaire, pointing out that this framework provides for a solution of bizonal, bicommunal federation as it was agreed in the High Level Agreements of 1977.
Furthermore he pointed out that it is apparent that the solution has to be accepted by the Cyprus people via a referendum.
Cyprus has been divided since 1974 when Turkey invaded and occupied its northern third. UN-backed negotiations resumed in February this year with the aim to reunite the island under a federal roof.
