A year on from the unexplained death of a woman in Enfield, detectives have launched a fresh appeal for witnesses and information.
Jourdain John-Baptiste, 22, died after falling from the balcony of her fourth floor flat in Gainsborough House, Ayley Croft, on Friday, 21 August 2015.
Despite extensive enquiries, officers are still trying to establish what happened on the balcony to cause her to fall. An inquest at North London Coroner’s Court on Tuesday, 23 August 2016 recorded an open verdict.
Detective Chief Inspector Gary Holmes, of the Homicide and Major Crime Command, said: “It has now been a year since the tragic death of Jourdain who was a bright young lady with her whole life ahead of her.
“I am directly appealing to any witnesses who may have seen or heard anything suspicious in the area around the time of her death to contact us. Equally, I am also appealing for anyone with any information on how Jourdain may have died to please get in touch with us.
“Maybe a year ago you didn’t feel you could come forward and talk to police but Jourdain’s family are of course devastated by what happened and I would urge anyone who can help to please contact us.
“We will be returning to the scene today, Wednesday 24 August between 11am and 2pm to hand out appeal leaflets and anyone can speak to my team there or call our incident room.”
Jourdain’s parents David and Tracey John-Baptiste said: “It has been a year since the death of our wonderful daughter Jourdain. We are still no nearer to finding out everything that happened that night. There must be people who have information, who have not yet told the police what they know. No matter how small that piece of information may be, we would urge them to speak to the police and to help us to understand what happened to Jourdain.”
Police were called at 01:42hrs on Friday, 21 August, to reports of a woman fallen from a flat. Jourdain was taken to an east London hospital in a critical condition where she died three days later.
A post-mortem examination held at Haringey Mortuary gave cause of death as multiple injuries consistent from a fall from a high building.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the investigation team on 0208 345 1570 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
