Get involved with Wood Green’s Future – exhibition launches

An exhibition showcasing exciting ideas to secure Wood Green’s future as one of London’s best places to live and work will give residents the opportunity to have their say this week.

The Wood Green’s Future exhibition, which starts today at Wood Green Library, will set out a range of ideas Haringey Council is exploring to bring long-term regeneration to the area.

The different options aim to show how regeneration could bring up to 5,000 new high-quality homes; create up to 4,000 jobs; and inject new life into the town centre and improve links to Alexandra Palace and the rest of London.

Local people and traders are at the heart of regeneration plans, with the council committed to involving the community at every step of the proposals.

Initial feedback from consultation events earlier this year showed that residents were concerned about safety, shopping facilities and tired public spaces, while independent research has shown that Wood Green’s economy is not performing as well as its counterparts across the capital.

But Crossrail 2 – a planned high-capacity rail line to link north east and south east London, slashing journey times – will bring new opportunities to Wood Green within the next 10-15 years.

This week’s exhibition, workshops and drop-in sessions with local residents and traders will help shape the council’s comprehensive regeneration plan, which is expected to be considered by the council’s Cabinet early next year.

Cllr Alan Strickland, Cabinet Member for Housing and Regeneration, said: “We’re committed to the regeneration of Wood Green, bringing thousands of modern new homes and career opportunities and once again making the town centre one of London’s best places to visit.

“We’re already invested millions into public space improvements, but the arrival of Crossrail 2 will give us a once-in-a-generation opportunity to secure Wood Green’s long-term future.

“Residents have already told us some of their priorities, but now we need your help in deciding how new housing, economic growth and a revolution in transport links help us respond to those priorities and meet the challenges of the future.”

The council has commissioned independent consultation experts Soundings to ensure everyone has the chance to give their views on regeneration ideas.
