Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Kotzias has discussed the Cyprus problem during a meeting he had in Washington with the US Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Victoria Nuland, who had just concluded a visit to Ankara.
In statements, Kotzias said that “all our Western partners are interested in a solution” of the Cyprus problem, adding that “the Cyprus settlement must be a good resolution that will be accepted by the Cypriot people.”
He noted that a settlement should not give any rights to the so-called guarantor powers.
Cyprus has been divided since 1974, when Turkish troops invaded and occupied 37% of its territory. UN-backed peace talks are set to resume in May in an effort to find a negotiated settlement to reunite the country.
