HARINGEY BOROUGH v WITHAM TOWN (penned by Adrian Steele)

Ryman League Division 1 North 5th March 2016 at Chadfields, Tilbury

Haringey Borough played relegation rivals Witham Town in another “home” game at Tilbury and ended up on the wrong end of a 3-2 score line. Boro faced a strong wind in the first half and flowing football was non-existent. Witham settled first and from their first real attack scored from inside the penalty area from their full back. The wind was getting stronger and Witham used it to their advantage and increased their lead on 34 minutes when the Witham left winger rounded the keeper and drove the ball into the net.
This woke Haringey and it was all Boro for the rest of the first half. Rakim Richards headed home a corner and within five minutes the Witham goalkeeper produced two wonder saves to keep the score in favour of the visitors.

The second half started with the wind near enough stopped, which certainly helped Witham as they increased their lead even further seventeen minutes in. A simple tap in from a left wing cross. For the next twenty minutes or so the ball bounced around in midfield with both keepers hardly touching the thing. Haringey had the last word when with time added on Adam Scotcher side footed from close range. Witham kicked off and the referee blew. Witham winning 3-2.

With Haringey still having games in hand on their relegation rivals, starting with a home game versus Wroxham this Tuesday at Tilbury again, any more slip ups like this though and Boro will be right back in the mire again. Borough will be back at Coles Park for two more home games against Thurrock on Saturday 12th and Brightlingsea Regent on Tuesday 15th
