Haringey Council Double the trouble – second injunction for aggressive tenant

A troublemaking tenant who has already been banned from a sheltered housing scheme for intimidating residents has now been ordered to stay away from all Homes for Haringey offices.

Terence Thompson, 56, has been served with a fresh injunction after repeatedly turning up drunk at the housing organisation’s Broadwater Farm office and threatening other residents and staff.

Thompson, of Willan Road, Tottenham, was asked last year not to return to the offices after frequent loutish behaviour but in January he turned up and became aggressive towards staff. He banged on the doors and yelled threats at one staff member, warning him that he would “sort him out” before telling him he was going to kill him when he left the office that night.

Another resident was also threatened when he refused to open the door for Thompson and had to be escorted out of the building for his own safety.

In June last year Thompson was banned, along with pal Annette Smith, from entering Brookside House Sheltered Scheme, Wood Green, after they were repeatedly abusive and aggressive towards the elderly residents.

This injunction has now been extended to ban Thompson from:

· Broadwater Farm Reception Facility, Gloucester Road, Tottenham

· Broadwater Farm Community Centre, Adams Road, Tottenham

· South Tottenham Customer Service Centre, Apex House, Seven Sisters Road, Tottenham

· Wood Green Customer Services Centre, 48 Station Road, Wood Green

If Thompson breaches the injunction, which is in place until January 2017, he faces being arrested. Homes for Haringey, Haringey Council’s housing management organisation, is also going to begin eviction proceedings against him.

Haringey Council’s Cabinet Member for Communities Cllr Bernice Vanier said:

“We will not tolerate threatening or abusive behaviour towards our staff or that of our partners, who have a right to do their jobs without being intimidated. Many of our residents also rely on customer service centres and housing offices as places to get advice and seek help, so it is imperative that they feel safe to visit them.

We will always take immediate and tough action against anyone who seems intent on undermining this.”
