Cllr Alan Strickland, Haringey Council Cabinet Member for Housing, Regeneration and Planning said:
We want to reassure residents that their safety is paramount to us, that their homes meet existing fire safety regulations and have passed all of the additional fire safety checks undertaken in recent weeks. We will not hesitate to take any further action deemed necessary as the Grenfell inquiry progresses.
I want to be absolutely clear that claims that we have “ruled out” sprinklers, or any other additional fire safety measures are completely untrue. We have been clear that the Council and Homes for Haringey are looking at the full range of fire safety options, including sprinklers, additional fire escapes, different alarm systems and other important measures.”
Once we know more about the guidance that will emerge from the Grenfell investigation, and our own internal work, we can look carefully at which measures might be necessary on a block-by-block basis.
Residents can also play a part in by following simple fire safety tips from the London Fire Brigade, such as ensuring fire doors are never propped open and keeping exits and communal areas clear from any obstructions and potentially flammable items.
