Residents have been urged to have their say about Haringey’s proposal to relocate Muswell Hill library to an alternative site in the heart of Muswell Hill. The public consultation on the future of Muswell Hill library was launched today and will close on Monday 25th August 2016. Haringey’s consultation outlines the two options available for the future of Muswell Hill library:
- Option 1: Stay in the same building
- Option 2: A brand new library in the centre of Muswell Hill – larger space and modern facilities, with level access for wheelchair and pushchair users.
There is currently no lift in the existing library building to access the children’s library on the first floor, and no accessible toilets for library users or staff. This makes the building inaccessible for many residents with pushchairs and those who use wheelchairs.
Cabinet Member for Customer Services and Culture, Councillor Bernice Vanier said: “I am proud Haringey has kept all of its nine libraries open unlike many other councils in London. The changes we are proposing for Muswell Hill would create a new library in the town centre which is accessible to residents who use wheelchairs and parents with children in pushchairs. I urge residents to have their say about the future of Muswell Hill library.”
