As we start to get out and everything unravels once again, this eventful week has shown me a lot, from the drunk and disorderly with undesirable behavioural attitude and a lack of any respectful social distancing to the verbal headache of pros or cons with vaccines, as well as other personal choices that had given me a headache for almost an hour worth of conversation. Why do people have to try and draw you into their way of important decision making? Why do people have to enforce their opinion as the only one that counts or is absolutely correct?
As the week progressed, I seemed to notice more people around with pressured demands to do what they see as appropriate. Were they seeking an argument or was it just to prove they are an authoritative figure in a situation? Is it because they underestimate our own capability of mental capacity of thinking and decision making? It didn’t seem to be an age issue, because these people were running down other people’s ideas who were also older than themselves. Isn’t it strange that these people seem to think that they know best and that they also know what’s best for you and your own needs. Why is it some people just feed off this form of control?
I have always been one to tolerate a great deal, I consider myself to be easy going the majority of the time, but when pushed to my boundary limit, I will speak my mind to the point of no return. Surprisingly to the many, I do have a brain and oh, I can even think for myself. So when verbal bullies step in with forceful views and judgemental opinion, can one be reminded that it is exactly just that – their own opinion – and often people’s opinions don’t count when making personal choices that are important to us personally and our own wellbeing.
Let’s be open and appreciate others opinions and suggested advice. Let’s appreciate it, take it in, filter it, and use what may suit us and our situation, but let’s not verbally bully others into our own ideal way of thinking that is good for us as an individual.
So to all those verbal bullies out there, who don’t even see what they are doing, please feel free to air opinions, but don’t expect others to conform to what is believed to be your right. Everyone is an individual and everyone has a choice.
At sixteen years old, one has the right to choose who they want to live with, at eighteen years old, a person can vote and make decisions to get married and buy a home in many states. Being an adult comes with full responsibilities and of course with all these legal rights, they can at this point also get sued and get taken in for breaking the law.
We all know about healthy eating, exercise, smoking, drinking, and many other things that are good or bad for us, however, we don’t force others to the gym etc, we can only be advised of all the pros and cons in all and then make a choice to do what we want or find a moderate balance in doing what works for us.
We have to hope that people of all ages learn through the experience of listening, reading, and seeing the consequences of inappropriate bad behaviour and/or decision making. No one is perfect and many learn through some non-desirable choices and decisions in life, but sometimes we have to learn and gain something from that unique experience.
When we are older, we hope that we have gained some wisdom along the way and will continue to do so with the experience of life itself. We will always be constantly learning from others and even other’s mistakes, but it is always essential that we do what is right for ourselves at that time for our preservation of sanity. Does it make sense to do what others want us to do because it makes them happy? Is it the right thing to do if it makes you personally miserable? What kind of life is that – it will have a domino and roll on effect of disharmony. How many people have been forced to marry people that were not of their own choice only to please their family, and then find themselves stuck in a empty loveless relationship, even though it may be comfortable. There are those that may be content to settle with that type of relationship and if it was to be of their own personal choice rather than enforcement, then it would seem to be more acceptable.
Let’s not be irate at others for their choice, if they are doing what they feel to be right for them at that moment in time. One can just speak their view and then let it be. Why can we not just respect other people’s decisions? Why are some people so argumentative, just because we do not agree on some subject matter? Why can we not just ‘agree to disagree’ on some things?!
It’s your life and it’s your choice!
