KOPA Challenge Cup: Maronites v Dynamo cracking game

The KOPA league only had one game Sunday due to the severe cold weather it was a second round Challenge Cup game between Maronites and Dynamo and this only match of the day was worth braving the cold to watch. It really was a great cup tie. Dynamo were strolling along in the first half with a four nil lead with their goals coming from Alex Violaris, Harry Charalambous, Anthony Macdonald 2. Anthony’s first was from a rebound and the second he was left alone on the edge of the box and clinically stroked it past the Maronite’s keeper making it four nil half time.

All the spectators were just expecting the formality of Dynamo coasting through the second half. The Maronites manager Elias team talk must have been good because his team just came screaming out for goals within minutes, a great cross from Matt Demetriades found Leo Agathangelou who tapped the ball into the back of the net. Few minutes later a Simon Koutis scissors kick brought off a good save from the Dynamo keeper Stephen Kalli. It was not long before Maronites got a second with Matt Demetriades taking advantage of a Dynamo defensive mix up.

Now Maronites with 15 minutes to go were really piling on the pressure and from a defensive clearance kick from a Maronites defender found their own forward Dino Costa who sped past two defenders and hit a 40 yard screamer into the back of the net making it 4-3.

Dynamo at long last woke up and Dynamo’s super striker Anthony Macdonald popped up with ten minutes to go to get the Red’s fifth goal giving him a hat trick making it 5-3 for Dynamo and ensure they go into the next round of the KOPA Challenge Cup to play either New Salamis or Panthea.
