First Division

Omonia 2 New Salamis 3 It was classed as the match of the day and the game definitely lived up to it. Both teams came out and played entertaining football and chances were created by both sides.New Salamis Nico Muir came closest when he hit the post and it was Nico who broke the stalemate when he tapped the ball into the Omonia goal from a Deniz Mehmet cross.

New Salamis then increased the lead to 2-0 with a flying free kick from Steve Velandia that is just before Nicole Muir scored a second to make it 3-0. New Salamis became complacent and allowed themselves to argue amongst themselves, with the opposing players and referee bringing Omonia back into the game. Whose first goal came from Ricardo then Yiannis came close with a shot. A big turning point was when New Salamis goalkeeper Darren Behcet saved a penalty from Harry Vazanias of Omonia.And in the late stages Omonia reduced the score to 3-2 with a diving header from Nick Nicou, giving the game a nail biting finish.

Cetinkaya Cinar 0 Anorthosis 5 Anorthosis have picked up since losing their first game at the start of the season. Now they have had two wins on the trot and scored nine goals in those two games and in second place in the league table. Injury hit Cetinkaya Cinar did not start as they wanted conceding after 3 minutes, a cross into the box met unmarked Stavro to head 0-1.

Alex Roussis scored in the 53rd minute Alex again on 66 minutes, the striker rounding keeper Remzi for 0-3. Cinar heads dropped and on 78 minutes Anorthosis got their fourth from the penalty spot Alex Roussis again scoring giving him a hat trick. A fifth was added right at the end scored by Charlie.

KLN 3 Brotherhood 2

Coming into this game Brotherhood were unbeaten and KLN had not won a game. So it was a surprise for KLN to win.

The game started pretty even, and it took a long kick from goalkeeper Max Papacosta for Michael Philippou to run on to and slot home to give KLN the lead. Brotherhood then took control and had many chances, even hitting the post but it stayed 1-0 to KLN at half time. In the second half, Brotherhood started where they left off and put pressure on KLN. They got 2 goals within 5 minutes of each other to go 2-1 up with 35 minutes left their scorers were Chris Antoni and Aaron Kennedy.

With 10 minutes to go, Luke Papacosta came on and scored instantly after receiving a pass from his brother Chris. With both teams trying to go for the win, Brotherhood missed a glorious opportunity when their striker went through one on one. The winning goal came after Andre Bennett played a delightful chip to Michael Philippou an he smashed it in from 10 yards to give KLN a 3-2 win.

Tripimeni-Olympia 6 Maronites 1

Tripimeni-Olympia were on fine form beating Maronites as a result are in third place now. Their goals coming from a Ricky Loucas hat trick, two goals from Alex Violaris and one from Ercan Altinook with Maronites lone goal coming from Theo Vasilliou.

Apoel 0 Livadia 1 This match meant Apoel were looking for their first win and Livadia their second so it was not surprising both teams defences were tight at the back. No real good chances were created by either side and it took a penalty to break the stalemate which was awarded to Livadia and scored by Elias Katsoulides.

Second Division

Achna 2 Arachne 3 First half was goalless with Arachne probably more on top but couldn’t find a breakthrough. Second half Achna scored against the run of play. First with a penalty and then a quick second with both goals scored by Chris Petrou the second Rob retrieved the ball gave it to Theo who passed the ball to Chris to score 2-0. 12 minutes to go…Arachne pulled a goal back through John Holmes close range effort. Arachne then were awarded a penalty converted by Damien Spyrou. An Injury time winner by super sub Lorenzo Toumazos with a shot that crept into the corner of goal. Great comeback from Arachne.

Komi Kebir 2 Pantel 1

This game could have gone either way but it was Komi who came out on top at New River in this hard fought encounter. Pantel took the lead when Jason Menzies latched on to a short back pass to make no mistake from just inside the area.

Komi levelled the game as Jason Hayes fired home from 20 yards after a corner had been headed out straight to him. The game was end to end until the dying minutes when 18 year old Alex Theodorou made it two goals in two games glancing home a near post header from another corner.

St Panteleimon 5 Asha 1

St Panteleimon FC’s opponents this week were Asha FC. The first half saw both teams confident in possession however it was the Saints, with the power and drive of Nikos Salapatas, Alex Dimgkioka & Costas Mina, who started to look the more threatening. With the pressure mounting and after some excellent build up play Alex Dimgkioka opened the scoring on 15 minutes for the Saints. A second swiftly followed through Nikos Salapatas and a third was added by Roberto Katsikas to compliment his very controlled performance in the midfield. The second half saw Asha FC respond with more possession and looked the more likely to score however a swift counter attack by the Saints saw Dimgkioka dispatch his second of the game making it 4-0. A similar move then saw Salapatas released on the left wing and after taking on two players finished in the bottom corner making it 5-0. With 10 minutes remaining Asha FC were rewarded for their hard work all afternoon scoring a fine goal with Chris Spyrou. Final result 5-1 and the Saints go marching on!
