KOPA football League to restart on 4th April 2021

KOPA are delighted to confirm that community football will restart following easing of the national lockdown. The league will split into two sections on restarting, with teams placed into each Group based on their points per game when the season was suspended due to COVID-19. Results from games played against teams in the respective sections are carried forward with the competition decided on each team playing against the opponents in the section twice (with any games played before the lockdown being carried forward). The challenge cup competition will also go ahead and the management committee will try to complete a divisional cup for each section depending on how the rest of the season progresses.
Kypros Kyprianou, Chairman of KOPA said ‘It has been a difficult time for our community, with COVID-19 impacting all of our lives including the loss of people very close to our league. Although football is lower on our list of our priorities, we are pleased that the government’s guidelines allow us to get playing again from the end of March. KOPA in consultation and approval of our clubs has an agreed format that enables competitive football to take place to some conclusion in the time we have, subject to there being no further disruption. The overwhelming feeling of our clubs was to play again this season, so the option to terminate the season was avoided. It would have been great to have all clubs restarting the season but we respect Apoel’s decision to withdraw’.
The sections with current points and games to be played will be as per the tables:
Fixtures have been issued and will be updated as appropriate.
Unfortunately APOEL FC have withdrawn from the league.
