KOPA League Weekend Round Up

First Division

New Salamis 2 AEL 0: Leaders New Salamis continue their unbeaten run by by beating AEL 2-0 with a convincing win over AEL who really played well , AEL are a very disciplined team and have been well organised by their manager Andy Neofitou. Mario Georgiou scored a brilliant opening goal in the 21st minute when he volleyed the ball straight into the back of the net from a cross. New Salamis second goal came in the 51st minute from Richard Georgiou.

Brotherhood 4 Omonia 0: Omonia laying third from bottom are very inconsistent, after beating Aradippou last week I thought they were on the road to recovery but Sundays performance let them down. Brotherhood was the much better team who were three nil up at half time with goal machine Aaron Kennedy scoring a hat trick in the 10, 25 and 35th minute before Taki scored the fourth goal establishing Brotherhood in third place and leaving Omonia third from bottom and struggling in the relegation zone.

Cetinkaya Cinar 1 Dynamo 0: A good win for Cetinkaya Cinar who are playing very good football at the moment and don’t deserve to be second from bottom but early season form let them down. Hassan Ali scored the only goal of the game for Cinar in the 21st minute.

Rizokarpasso 11 Aradippou 3: You would think judging by the score it was a volleyball game.and yet at one time in the game bottom of the table Aradippou were holding their own at 1-1 so don’t know what happened after that. Rizokarpasso’s goals came from Tom Boxer, Jamie Brandon 3, Harry Vazania, Spencer Stylianou, Lawrence Rispoli, Luke Crowe, Dean Barker, Mike Anastasiou and George Sirtaliotis. This win keeps Rizokarpasso in 4th place.

Second Division

Komi Kebir 2 Anorthosis1: The second division was full of surprises this week In form Komi Kebir got the better of Anorthosis in a very exciting game with both teams hitting the woodwork in the first half. The second half got even better when Danny Coolridge scored from just inside the box in the 60th minute for Anorthosis. This seem to motivate much improved Komi Kebir who were playing nice football finding space continually and were rewarded with a goal from Mirel and then they hit the bar minutes later with a tremendous drive from Michael Georgiou. There were breakaways from both sides but it was Komi Kebir who got the winning goal when Mario Seyhoe crossed it for Volkan to chest the ball and volley it straight into the back of the net. This win gives a good chance of promotion to Komi Kebir who are now on 21 points four points behind third placed Maronites with Komi having two games in hand over the Maronites.

KLN 3 Pantel 1: This is the bottom of the table KLN’s first win of the season and it’s a great achievement from being non existent at the beginning of the season they have been improving gradually under the management of Paul Brian. Pantel though they are struggling at the moment from being a top three team they have dropped to seventh place.

KLN’s goals came from Mehmet in the 25th minute Mario Charalambous in the 40th minute and Alex Stavrinou in the 85th minute Pantel’s lone goal came in the 70th minute from Andy Reas.

Arachne 1 Olympia 0: Another shock result Arachne third from bottom beating second in the table Olympia. Arachne took an early lead with Leo Charalambous scoring in the 15th minute which also turned out to be the winner. Both teams worked hard and were pressing for goals through counter attacks.

Pendayia 1 Maronites 1 : In a game with serious implications for possible promotion places, high flying Pendayia squared off against Maronites who were coming off a shocking loss last week against Arachne. The game was fairly even and played in the kind of way you would expect to see between two playoff contenders. Both teams had their share of the chances but it was not until the second half when the deadlock was broken. After Pendayia saw several good chances go wide, Chris Andrea had his second assist in as many weeks as he drilled down the by-line and played the ball across the 6 yard box and Tsetso Stoyanov put the ball away with ease. Both teams continued looking for another goal but with minutes left in the game a long ball from the back was played in to Adam Ali and he tucked it into the bottom corner to give the visitors a point.

LFA Challenge Cup, Quarter Final

Pearscroft Utd 3 Tripimeni 2: The only Cypriot team left in the tournament Tripimeni had the difficult task of playing last year’s finalists Pearscroft who won the game 3-2 . Tripimeni also missed a penalty. Tripimeni’s scorers were Ahmet Rifat and Karim Essiaghi.
