Larnaca Airport tragedy

A 63-year-old water tanker driver has died after a collision with a small private plane parked at Larnaca airport.
The accident occurred at 9.40pm Monday on the apron of the old airport.
George Nicolaou was trapped in the cab of his vehicle and had to be freed by firemen. He was then taken to Larnaca General Hospital where he underwent surgery for internal bleeding but died.
The Department of Labour and the Civil Aviation department are investigating the accident. Hermes Airports, who run the facility, have expressed their condolences to the man’s family.
The police have launched their own inquiry after they were initially denied access to the accident site by airport authorities.
