A Larnaca kiosk was robbed in the early hours of Sunday by a man wielding a sledgehammer.
Brandishing the sledgehammer and wearing a hood, gloves and a scarf, the man, appearing about 20 years old, entered a kiosk located on Faneromeni Avenue in Larnaca at 4.30am on Sunday, according to police reports.
He put a bag he was carrying on the cash register’s countertop and, threatening the kiosk employee with the sledgehammer, ordered her to hand over the contents of the till, speaking in Greek, in the Cypriot dialect.
She placed the night’s earnings, amounting to around 200 euros, in the bag, after which the man left the kiosk and fled in an unknown direction.
The kiosk employee alerted the police, who arrived on the scene, blocked off the area and began investigations.
Police intend to analyse footage from the kiosk’s closed-circuit camera, to establish how much of the robber’s actions were recorded. Investigations are continuing.
