LARNACA District Court yesterday sentenced Tantar Thomas and Ami Milenof to 12 and eight months imprisonment respectively after they were found guilty of robbing Konteas co-operative bank in December.
They were also found guilty of receiving stolen goods.
Thomas, a 38-year-old German woman, managed to get the cashier at the co-op to hand over €5,000 by simply implying that she was armed with a gun.
She initially told police she had been threatened into robbing the co-op by an unknown individual, however her Bulgarian partner, 21-year-old Milenof, was eventually implicated in the crime when €1,390 was found in their house, believed to part of the money stolen.
Apparently, her partner had been pressuring her to find €2,000 to pay off his debts but did not know she had robbed the co-op. She was forced to tell him when police released a photo of her.
They spent most of the money on his debts and Christmas shopping
