A MAN from Waltham Abbey attacked police officers after they asked him to raise his genitals as part of a strip search.
Christopher Barnet, 37, slapped one officer in the head, lashed out at another and spat at a third after being asked to raise his genitals so an officer could check whether a weapon was concealed under them.
Barnet, of Winters Way, had been arrested for harassment of his ex-girlfriend, Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court was told.
Andrew Clowser, mitigating, said his client was naked and humiliated, and struck the officer as he was leaving the cell.
He said: “Referring to his genitalia, he was told to lift it up – he felt humiliated. He slapped the officer on the forehead because he felt naked and humiliated.”
Mr Clowser described the other assaults as “glancing blows” and “reckless” spitting.
Barnet had been arrested when he went to his ex-girlfriend’s Waltham Abbey home, after making numerous phone calls to her. When he was arrested by police he struggled, and made various threats.
He pleaded guilty to harassment and assaulting three police officers, and was given a two-year community order as well as attend a domestic violence programme and comply with a two-year restraining order not to contact his ex-girlfriend. Barnet also paid £25 compensation to two of the officers involved.
He breached a 12-month conditional discharge for damaging his mother’s fridge, and was fined £73 with a £15 victim surcharge for that offence, as well as pay £85 costs.
